Specialty Travel

Today, there is a vast realm of travel possibilities. They need not be expensive, yet they allow you, our travelers, to pursue that which you find most interesting and satisfying. There are trips either with groups or on your own for walkers, hikers, and bikers. You can stay in hotels, guesthouses or apartments. You can kayak, sail or ski! You might like to sail on a mega-ship or small boat. So, let us help you find the travel that is right for you!
Chile

If you love nature and want to explore the natural and cultural environment of the remote, there are two destinations in Chile for you. In the north, it is the Atacama Desert and in the south, Patagonia. Enjoy sophisticated hotels with the pleasures of life, along with organized explorations with a spirit of adventure. Between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes is the Atacama desert; a moment of repose and change for the pre-Columbian Andean cultures of South America. Each day from your hotel you can choose the options of walking, horseback riding or biking in the Andes where you can enjoy volcanoes and plateaus, or you can visit small villages with plenty of tradition and folklore. The climate is magnificent throughout the year, with temperatures varying year round from 72 to 81 degrees during the day and 28 to 61 degrees at night. In Chilean Patagonia nature is still virgin and Torres del Paine National Park exemplifies this indescribable scenery. Every day there are five options, chosen according to the weather and your wishes; by van, horseback, on foot, in launch or on mountain bike, always with the help of selected guides, the wonders of nature are within reach. Both Explora Hotels have all of the comforts of a hotel at the highest level.
Peru and Ecuador

Travel to Peru, Galapagos and Ecuador to experience nature, learn about history and cultures - and have a good time. Explore with a handful of like-minded travelers and experience the unique flora, fauna and historical sites on an intimate scale. What started as a family run company is now a leading firm offering small, intimate adventures, holding itself to the highest standards for quality, safety and reliability. Wherever you travel the finest guides and accommodations available will be yours. When dining you will sample local specialties in restaurants that feature regional and international cuisine. While sailing on private yachts in the Galapagos the chefs work magic in their tiny galleys. Your fellow travelers are educated, independent folks who travel with open minds, a sense of adventure and an insatiable curiosity about the world. Itineraries include strolls through the most historic areas, walks along the beach, and hikes into the Galapagos highlands and to remote sites at Machu Picchu. This is one of the first adventure travel companies whose corporate mission statement expresses principles of ecotourism.
Africa

They own and operate their own fleet of custom built "safari cruisers" which are designed with an extra large photographic roof hatch, extra dust proofing, and comfortable seats with seat belts. Each vehicle carries a maximum of six passengers so that everyone is guaranteed a window seat and access to the photographic roof hatch at all times during the safari. A comprehensive selection of safaris will suit almost every traveler to Africa - whether "all inclusive" with a group or "a la carte" for the independent traveler. Amazon Voyage

It is almost impossible to fathom the vast dimensions of the Amazon Basin. The 4,200 mile long superhighway known as the Amazon River forms the backbone of this enormous wilderness, home to the most biologically diverse wildlife on Earth. You are invited on a journey of exploration into this incredible rainforest via a graceful and romantic, classically styled exploratory ship. After departure from Iquitos, Peru the voyage takes you up ever-smaller waterways into increasingly remote locations. Outstanding naturalist guides, born and reared in Amazonia, share with you the subtle intricacies of the rainforest and its inhabitants. Experience the Amazon as few people ever will - in comfort on your intimate riverboat, staffed by skillful, conscientious and personable crews. All cabins are air-conditioned, with private baths and hot-water showers. Delicious Peruvian and international meals are prepared daily using only the freshest ingredients. Open air top decks offer incredible wildlife viewing by day and unforgettable stargazing by night.
Self-guided France

Self-guided is a sophisticated style of travel which suits your expectations and lifestyle. It is a fully organized vacation for independent travellers. You have the freedom to walk or cycle at your own pace, with support behind the scenes. You have a set itinerary, prepaid accommodations, luggage transfers and emergency support. On cycling tours the bicycle is included. But on a self-guided tour there is no guide and no group to hurry you along or slow you down. It is safe, affordable and enriching. Several options for cycling or walking in France are Provence - where you feel the warmth of the sun, taste the dry rose wine and smell the pungent herbs; Burgundy - great art, superb gastronomy and a history fermented with religion and royalty; or the Cote d'Azur - here chic avenues and hiking paths tucked into the corners of the Alpes-Maritimes await you. If cycling or hiking is not for you - drive and stroll combines the freedom of driving, with easy adventure travel and the security of a self-guided tour. Drive to the best of France in the Dordogne and Provence, then walk to discover hidden castles and the best markets.
Spain and Portugal

Travel to Europe should highlight the amazing differences between life in North America and the history, culture and charm of the old world. There is a special company that can assist you in creating a trip that captures the spirit of the country. They will recommend hotels and other accommodations that will give you a feel for the history. Explore the natural as well as the cultural treasures of Spain and Portugal. Get out and take a walk in the country or on the beach, rent a bike or a horse, climb a mountain! Castles, palaces, monasteries, and country houses await your arrival. Spain's system of exotic lodging called paradores, and small privately owned properties provide a unique and enjoyable way to visit the Iberian peninsula. You can soak up its culture as you meet its people. In Portugal the same type of accomodations await you - here they are called pousadas, and many are hundreds of years old. All of them are located in areas that will give you a taste of the real Portugal.
Canada

Take a mountain holiday where few have gone before and travel with grace and style. It is a high mountain adventure of helicopter rides and spectacular encounters with nature, combined with private rooms in luxurious lodges and fantastic food. Heli-Hiking was invented 22 years ago and can be done by any one able to walk who has a spirit of adventure. A helicopter is used to transport guests to and from the lodges for each hiking day. The lodges are located in very remote mountain areas with a vast amount of terrain to explore. There are few established hiking trails, therefore the helicopter is required to transport you to hikeable terrain each day. The daily hike is as much or little as you want; from 100 feet to 10 miles and more. Groups are formed based on ability, so you can hike comfortably within your limits, or choose to go beyond. Hiking takes place at an altitude of between 6,000 and 9,000 feet, which is a very comfortable altitude for most people.
Southeast Asia

Thailand - this most exotic of destinations, renowned for its natural beauty, sparkling temples and warmhearted people has a great secret - fantastic golf! Superb courses designed by the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Robert Trent Jones are so beautiful that sometimes it's hard to keep your head down! Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia-old French Indochina- is a battlefield no more. With an abundance of cultural treasures, great natural beauty and some of the kindest people in the world, the region offers the traveler so much. Built 1,000 years ago, the magnificent temple complex of Angkor provides the focus for a trip to Cambodia. Laos is a sleeper - harboring a rich variety of cultures that offer the traveler an unmatched glimpse of old Southeast Asia. The mighty Mekong River awes while stately Luang Phrabang beguiles with its sleepy backwater feel and serene Buddhist culture. Travel with a company that was a pioneer in this region and whose experience, contacts, professionalism and service set them apart.
Alaska

Winding along the coast of Southeast Alaska and British Columbia, the Inside Passage is 1,200 miles of dramatic scenery, majestic wildlife and living history. Aboard a small vessel with a maximum of 102 guests you'll visit narrow passageways and remote villages that reveal an Alaska you can't experience on a larger ship. Your itinerary takes you to places whose very names evoke the romance and ruggedness of this last American Frontier - Misty Fjords and Wrangell Narrows, Peril Strait and Blackstone Bay. Flexible itineraries give you time to experience unplanned events of nature. Feel the icy spray from a waterfall on your face as it cascades down the side of a gorge and watch a magnificent glacier "calve" in front of you. Experience Alaska as the early explorers once did - aboard a small vessel, slipping in and out of sheltered inlets and hidden coves, peeking in on a family of playful sea otters and eagerly await what's around the next bend.
Egypt

For centuries travelers have been drawn to Egypt, birthplace of one of the greatest civilizations. It is a place of extraordinary monuments, brilliant paintings and intricate reliefs in ancient tombs. By combining an elegant ship, the finest guides and hotels, and a small group of traveling companions this company has tried to capture the best of Egypt. The 15 cabin elegant Nile ship has the appearance and ambiance of an elegant private yacht. In Cairo, you stay at the historic Mena House Oberoi and the Nile Hilton, in rooms with views of the Pyramids and the Nile, respectively. You will travel with outstanding Egyptologists who are on hand to share their knowledge of all aspects of ancient and modern Egypt. You'll be taken behind the scenes to meetings with local experts. If time permits you can extend your adventure with an extension to Jordan, including a visit to the ancient city of Petra.
